Who We Are
I have been involved with retail for over 35 years in operations, buying, marketing and as a consultant. I now own Shaftesbury Wines, the specialist wine shop on the High Street. I joined the chamber to strengthen the retailer’s perspective. My aim is to celebrate the success of our town both locally and nationally.
I undertook an apprenticeship to become a Master Thatcher on the Rushmore Estate in the late 1970’s and have run Shire Thatcher’s in and around Dorset since 1984. My wife, Nicola Carter, runs Natures Treasures, the crystal and fossil shop at the top of the High Street in Shaftesbury. I stood for chair to give members more of a voice and push for greater involvement in the Chamber, and having passed the baton on to David Perry now look after Membership.
I have been in business in Shaftesbury since 1997 and involved with the Chamber since 1998, having been Chairman for 2 years. It has been a pleasure to witness Shaftesbury grow as feature destination for both shoppers and tourists, and I intend to work to see it continue to do so.
I moved to the Shaftesbury area in 1999 after serving for 25 years in the RAF, retiring as a Wing Commander in logistics. After working for Wiltshire Police as a Press Officer, I took over managing the voluntary-staffed Tourist Information Centre in 2007. Needless to say we all strive to make Shaftesbury a popular location attracting visitors and local residents alike to enable our town to thrive.
