We’re dreaming of a pink Christmas
Shaftesbury’s Christmas planning is well underway. Last year was such a huge success we have really got our work cut out to match it. However we learned a lot from last year so we are well placed to put on an even more spectacular event.
The lights will go on during the Christmas Spectacular on Monday 1st December. This year the Chamber will paint the town pink as fashion designer Dame Zandra Rhodes CBE returns to turn on the Christmas lights. Dame Zandra is a patron of Breast Cancer Campaign which the event will be supporting.
Shops will be staying open until late and the town will become a wonderful carnival of Christmas with mulled wine and cider, traction engines, hot chestnuts, music and market stalls. There will be a lantern procession and marching bands leading up to the turning on of the lights. Local charities and other town groups will be encouraged to use the event to raise funds with their own stalls.
Gold Hill will be illuminated once again creating a unique spectacle.
Santa will be putting in an appearance at the town hall and children will also be thrilled to meet a Forever Friends Bear outside Hallmark cards.
£1000 Christmas draw
Dame Zandra will also be making the Christmas draw. One lucky local shopper will win £1000 of goods and vouchers from local shops. To enter the draw shoppers have to collect a number of stamps by shopping in participating shops between 1st and 29th of November. For more details look out for posters in Shaftesbury’s many independent retailers.
On Sunday 14th December Shaftesbury will be buzzing with the County’s biggest Christmas street market including the popular French market. The whole of the High Street from Angel Square to the Commons will be overflowing with festive goodies. The town’s unique shops will also be open for Christmas shopping.
