End of an era for Shaftesbury Chamber

After an unprecedented four consecutive years as chair of Shaftesbury and District Chamber of Commerce Clive Carter stepped down at the AGM on Thursday 13th April.

The 62 year old chain of office was passed on to David Perry of Shaftesbury Wines who has been acting Vice Chairman for the last couple of years.

Chamber president Tony Morgan, founder of Wessex Group, presided over the meeting which unanimously praised Clive’s contribution noting that the Chamber is now stronger than ever.

As incoming chair David’s first act was to propose that Clive became an honorary member. This was carried unanimously. David commented, “Clive will remain a most valuable member of the executive team but making him an honorary member means he can never leave!”

Chamber membership continues to grow

DSC_0135Membership of the Shaftesbury and District Chamber of Commerce continues to grow. Chairman Clive Carter was delighted to welcome Tim Beer as one of the newest members. Although based on the other side of Dorset, Tim is a great contributor to Shaftesbury as he is the organiser of the Super Sunday market which comes to the town on the 3rd Sunday of every month.

t-shirt-20-8-2013-300x300Tim is also the owner of Marshwood Vale Cider and sells his award winning ciders, mead and apple juice on the Sunday markets. Recently he has added Jurassic Seafood to his repertoire offering freshly cooked all-fish organic burgers from a stall fashioned out of an old boat. The Chamber have been great supporters of the Super Sunday Market since its inception in February. The number of stalls are deliberately limited to just the very best local producers but it is becoming increasingly popular. As this is the first year, many of the best local producers are often pre-committed but as time goes on and awareness grows we all expect the event to get bigger and become a permanent part of Shaftesbury life.

The chamber would like to thank Tim for his enthusiasm and continued hard work.

DSC_0091The dates for the rest of this year’s Shaftesbury Super Sunday market are 21st August, 18th September, 16th October, 20th November and finally the Christmas market on December 18th. If you haven’t experienced it yet why not take a stroll through the town on the next Super Sunday?
